About Us
Joy Distenfeld was the District’s school psychologist for 15 years. Joy took particular interest in guiding and enhancing the academic development of the gifted and talented students of the District. It was her wish, just prior to her death in early 1984, to establish a fund from which these students would receive a stipend to attend a pre-approved summer program to supplement their regular curriculum by exploring and fully developing their abilities and talents.
Over the last 30 years, approximately 300 students ranging from 8-17 years (in Grades 3 through 11) have benefited from Joy Distenfeld Fund stipends.
The Joy Distenfeld Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established on February 18, 1984 to honor and commemorate the efforts of Joy Distenfeld on behalf of the gifted and talented students of the Valhalla Public School District.
